Delhi Demolition: 4 बजे सुबह तोड़े 1200 घर, गोविंदपुरी भूमिहीन कैंप में तबाही | By Geetanjali dubey
On the morning of June 11, a massive demolition drive shook the heart of Delhi’s Govindpuri area in the Kalkaji Assembly constituency. In a dramatic early dawn operation, over a dozen bulldozers rolled into the Bhumiheen Camp between 4 and 5 AM, tearing down homes of more than 1,200 families. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) had issued a notice just three days prior, asking residents to vacate their homes—many of whom have been living there since the 1990s. This is the same location where Delhi’s former minister Atishi Marlena was arrested on June 10 while protesting the demolition drive. Despite widespread opposition, the Delhi High Court’s summer bench, led by Justice Dharmesh Sharma, ruled in favor of DDA, allowing the clearance to proceed. Shockingly, out of over 1,300 residents, only one has been granted rehabilitation, while the rest have been denied resettlement.
